Can doing Yoga and/or Pilates help correct any spinal/muscle tension and poor posture? What other benefits are there from doing these two things?
Oh my goodness yes!!
Both are “core” workouts.
Yoga is more relaxing, but you will definitely sweat since it’s really a ‘micro muscle” workout. All your little muscles twitching to hold your balance will wear you out!
Pilate’s is a “Big muscle” workout. You’ll “see” more muscle tone, with Pilate’s, but your core results (so to speak) is the same.
Core is your whole mid-section. (abs, back, flexors, quads, glutes). It’s the foundation. A strong and tone core makes all other body movements easier. It also makes any other muscle toning program you have more productive. You’ll be able to lift more, do more push ups, more pull ups, more squats… or to add More weight.
A strong core greatly improves posture naturally, and reduces back pain. (btw: lower back pain can come from your legs too…so be sure your stretching enough!) Stay away from chiropractors!
I train kickboxing and gracie jiujitsu and want to find away to increase my flexibility meanwhile.
Which would be better – yoga or pilates?
I also want to improve my posture, as I am tall it’s a bit stooped.
If you are choosing between those two systems, Yoga is probably your best bet. Yoga has been refined over a period of hundreds if not thousands of years. Pilates was the flavor of the month a few years back on the “no sweat” country club circuit.
I’m not really down on Pilates, its just relatively new and has been marketed in a trendy fashion. I enjoy Yoga, and the effects are visible in the posture and balance. I just have not seen the same in those who practice Pilates.
I, like many people, have a small problem with posture. I want to learn some pilate exercises but Im not so into it that I would want to get an instructor. Im just looking for a website that I can learn some of them or maybe someone on here can explain some to me.
they have all the tapes for pilates at the library and that way before going to a class you’ve given yourself time to get used to the activity
I’m physically fit but I want to improve my posture but I couldn’t decide if yoga or pilates is more convenient for me. Everyone around tells me to take pilates lessons but they have no experience. So I want to take advice from those who’s experienced
at least one of yoga or pilates: I’m not a very sports-like person, which one is easier and more suitable for me?
I used to do pilates and yes it is more difficult than yoga.Yoga is basically meditating and not a lot of work gets done so I recommend pilates if you want to exercise. Sometimes it’s also fun
